    Description

    1833 LM-9 Capped Bust half dime, contained in an ancient, ANACS Cache style holder, graded MS61.  ANACS used to be fairly conservative graders back in the day, and this coin certainly drives that point home.  They also used to be exceptionally good with attributions, though they got this one wrong...and it's the first one we can recall seeing that they missed!  ANACS called this an LM-3.4, but it is actually an LM-9.  The LM-9 is typically weakly defined in the centers, and this coin certainly is, thus we feel that the significant under-grading (in our very humble opinion) is likely due to strike.  It certainly isn't due to a lack of luster, nor is it due to excess friction, nor marky surfaces.  This is a solid Choice Unc in our view, which even displays a bit of semi PL flash...and its darn pretty too!
