Here we offer a beautiful example of American Majolica made in the late 1800s by Avalon Faience / Chesapeake Pottery of Baltimore. At the time these were made, c.1882, the factory began with this pattern called “Clifton”.
They feature blackberries and leaves on an Ivory background reminiscent of the Wedgewood Argenta Design with beautiful Gold Trim.
Several Artists at Chesapeake Pottery had worked at Wedgwood, Fielding and Brownfield in England.
This piece measures 7 inches tall and although unmarked, we know this Wedgwood influenced piece is from Chesapeake Pottery.
Excellent antique condition with no chips or cracks, it has overall glaze crazing which is normal for antique majolica.
