For auction is this very nice antique
GRIFFIN, SMITH & HILL ETRUSCAN MAJOLICA PLATE.
with a MAPLE LEAF surrounded by pink with a yellow basket
weave border. It is just shy of 9" in diameter. GSH was in operation
in Phoenixville, PA from 1870-1892. It has their impressed mark
on the back. There is also, what looks like an impressed E. There
is a small old chip on the rim (pic. #10) and minute "flea bites" as
are shown in picture #9. There is nothing major. It would make
a very good addition to a collection of Etruscan Majolica.
If you ever happen to be near Phoenixville, stop in at
the Historical Society. The Miriam Clegg room has a
very nice representative sample of GSH majolica.
