Antique Majolica Art Pottery 10 1/4" Gurgling Fish Pitcher-1880's
This is a nice antique majolica figural fish pitcher referred to in references as the gurgling fish. It was made during ca the 1880's by companies in England, France and the US. This pitcher is 10 1/4" high, 5 7/8" by 2 3/4" and the base is 3 3/8" in diameter. It has a grey, blue and brown exterior with a pink interior and green coral on the base. The handle is in a form of a fish tail. There are some small glaze misses or losses on the very edge of the mouth and there is overall light crazing. There is also a defect on tail where there was a chip prior to the pitcher being painted and glazed at the factory and it rocks just slightly. Both of these occurred during manufacture and the rocking has been stopped by putting a rubber pad on the bottom. Still displays very nicely! No maker's mark but ca 1880's.
