Unique, one of a kind, original vintage business card for the Blue Note Club located on 27 rue d’Artois in Paris authentically and beautifully signed in black ink by American jazz pianist and composer
    Bud Powell
. After opening in June 1958, Blue Note became the most cosmopolitan jazz club in all of Paris. It was the club where Powell established the base of operations for his trio, with Pierre Michelot on bass, and Kenny Clarke on drums. Their stay ran from 1959 until 1962, with almost daily performances. The audience was usually crammed on the leather benches that dotted the large central hall, and if they couldn’t find a spot, there was always the bar. The acoustics of the room were excellent, and the house band included some of the best French jazzmen at the time led by guitarist Jimmy Gourley. They, in turn, accompanied many of the top American soloists who visited the Blue Note during the splendor years of the club (1958-1965). Bud Powell autographed material is very scarce in any form. The scarcity can be partly attributed to his short and troubled life which was deeply compromised by mental and physical illness, alcohol and drug abuse. His extraordinary musical gifts were erratic and eventually diminished by probable schizophrenia, tuberculosis, and the lingering effects of a vicious beating he suffered in 1945, from which he never fully recovered. Yet, Powell is celebrated as one of the greatest of all jazz pianists. In 1979 the great Bill Evans paid Powell a tribute: "If I had to choose one single musician for his artistic integrity, for the incomparable originality of his creation and the grandeur of his work, it would be Bud Powell. He was in a class by himself".
The card measures 8.5 x 5 cm (approx. 3-3/8 by 2 inches). The reverse features a Paris street map and "Bud Powell" written in pencil. P
