Up for auction is a Kilgore Boy Ranger CannonMachine Gun
Condition / Description: Measures 18 inches overall,with 13-inch cannon. Has “PT’D JUNE 1913” embossed on one rail arm and “ILGOREMFG CO” (missing the “K”) and “WESTERVILL HIO U S” (Missing the E onWesterville and the O for Ohio on the other rail arm.
It also has “BOY RANGER MACHINE GUN” embossedon both sides of the Cannon.
“The Kilgore Manufacturing Company was started bin 1912by Joseph D. Kilgore in Homestead Pa. to manufacture small cast iron pistolsand mechanical toys. In 1918, Kilgore moved its operation to Westerville, Ohio.At one time, Kilgore was the largest toy cap pistol maker in the United States.”
This is a very rare antique toy over 100 years old! Thecannon and rigging appear to be cast iron and the wheels are wooden. There isnormal wear on metal and wood surfaces, but unit is in very remarkablecondition for its age. I know better than to mess with original patina.
It is called a machine gun because it can be loaded with12 or so marbles and repeatedly fired through the cannon. The mechanism worksflawlessly and can propel marbles 15 feet or more. Be careful not to aim at anyone,as it could cause injury! Included are 12 old marbles.
This would make a great holiday gift for the serioustoy, militia, or cannon collector. You may not see another like it.
